Our Events
Agape Quarterly Happenings
Throughout the year, we gather for seasonal events that bring our community together through service, celebration, and shared life. From holidays and fundraisers to special outreach moments, our quarterly happenings reflect the joy, connection, and consistency at the heart of Agape Love.
January - March Events
New Year's Party
Every New Year’s Day we host a potluck and BBQ karaoke party for our volunteers and any of our Monday guests who want to come. As we eat and hang out, wr play board games and do karaoke. We usually celebrate our birthdays for the month as well.
MLK & President's Day
For one Monday in January and one in February, the kids are off from school! We get excited whenever kids can come and volunteer or just enjoy their time on Monday mornings together. We try to have a kid-friendly menu on these days (chicken nuggets, fries, mac n cheese, etc.). We also have fun music and opportunities for kids to sing on stage.
Garden
Near the end of March, we get our church garden prepped for planting a ton of crops for late spring/early summer. The things we grow go right into our weekly meals: tomatoes, zucchini, bell peppers, jalapeños, yellow squash, cantaloupe, green beans, peas, cucumbers, basil, oregano, thyme, parsley, and cilantro. And so much is left over for us to put into food boxes for our guests in our community.
April - June Events
Love Lodi
This is a yearly spring event where many of our volunteers participate in a community service project (helping elderly neighbors with yard work, cleaning up trash off the streets, house cleaning, etc).
Easter
In either March or April we have an Easter event with a traditional Easter meal. It’s another fun family event that our guests get to experience. (You will probably see a guy walking around in a bunny suit and some hidden eggs!)
Memorial Day
As our first entree of the summer, we usually celebrate with burgers, hot dogs, pasta and/or potato salad, etc. We take time to honor the memory of others who have served our country.
Fundraiser
Every June we have a fundraiser at Gravity Church, usually with a raffle, meal, and baked goods. More than just raising funds, we also get to bring more awareness of who we are and what we do, to our local church community and neighbors.
July - September
Summer Parties
Every month we celebrate the birthdays of our volunteers and guests, but our summer parties involve swimming, BBQ and lots of fun! We love being able to share in service and life together at the same time. We love that our kids get to have fun growing up with other kids on these safe and loving occasions, offering a brief reprieve from the difficult home-lives of some.
Camping
Every summer a dozen of us enjoy a weekend together fishing, swimming, eating, and singing around the fire. It’s a time of relaxation, joy and deepening relationships among our volunteers, and even a few of our guests.
Park Outreach
In the summertime of years past, Agape Love has come alongside many other ministries and partnered in reaching out with love to the community. Several ministries combine, each with different kinds of service: food, worship, clothing, face painting and other fun kids’ activities, community resources and other types of information booths, prayer teams, baptisms, and more. These are huge events, regularly resulting in us serving 600 – 1,000 meals.
Catering: Weddings, Showers, Birthdays
Summer is usually the time of big food events. And Agape Love has had the honor of providing food for some big life events for individuals in our community. We have served food and helped with other ministries’ fundraisers, baby showers, weddings, and birthday parties. And since we receive donations of food and work as volunteers, we have been able to cater events at no cost, or occasionally for a small donation. But we always provide high quality meals made from scratch, so our customers are never disappointed!
October - December
Thanksgiving
Our biggest on-site church event of the year happens the Monday before Thanksgiving. We set up a big area of decorated tables, hear a Thanksgiving message, and watch a guy in a turkey suit play a funny song.
Many guest volunteers come to serve, usually high schoolers who normally don’t get to experience our Monday outreach. We enjoy watching their love-filled service, and how it makes such an impression in their young lives.
When so many of us unite to make upwards of 400 traditional Thanksgiving meals for our community, the spiritual benefits are profound.
Fundraiser
Just the same as our mid- year fundraiser, the end-of-year fundraiser is usually a little bigger and more holiday-themed. We raise funds by serving meals, selling baked goods, and holding a raffle. Again, it’s yet another opportunity for our volunteers to see how loved we are in return for loving our community. These events encourage and demonstrate the loving support of our church and community as a whole.
Christmas
The Monday before Christmas we have another traditional holiday meal for our guests. It’s a wonderful time of celebrating the birth of our Savior together in a time festive and fun fellowship. Christmas decorations are put out, Christmas songs are sung, and a Christmas message is given. Kids off from school get to share in the fun by receiving candy and small toys, and come on stage for sing-alongs.
Our Ongoing Programs
Nursing home Ministry
For over two years, Agape Love has offered Sunday worship, a message, communion, prayer and visitation at 2 different Lodi nursing homes once a month. Over many months, we are able to build meaningful relationships that bless the residents and volunteers alike.
Agape Birthdays
Every month (or quarter) we throw a party for our volunteers and guests who have a birthday during that time. We love getting to celebrate together, often with some who rarely or ever get celebrated. We strive to share life together in as many ways as we can.
Outreach Ministries International: The Outreach Pipeline
A key feature of our success in helping individuals get off the streets, into recovery, and into safe, transitional living, is the interconnectedness of several ministries working seamlessly together. The core partners, under the umbrella of Outreach Ministries International, are Gravity Church, the Lodi Access Center, Agape Love, Sidewalk Angels, and Second Step Living.
At any one of these points of access, people receive services in the form of new clothes, meals, food boxes, temporary shelter, social services, medical assistance, legal help, housing assistance and more, all in an atmosphere of compassion, competency, and commitment.
